“Raising Spirits in Marshall County” The Haunted Museum

“It’s not Halloween until someone is crying,” was a favorite line of the late Steve Calhoun who embraced the holiday. Living in a Gothic house on North Michigan Street behind an iron fence with a wide front porch, Calhoun decorated, dressed up, and celebrated All Hallows’ Eve by scaring little candy beggars while he and his wife, Debbie passed out treats. When the Calhouns moved to a less conspicuous street, they donated several spooks and mummies to the museum.

Since continuing pandemic concerns convinced us that we needed to postpone the Ghost Walk until 2022, we decided to raise spirits (as in making people smile!) and host a new kind of Halloween experience. Using props donated by the Calhouns, and Lou and John Davis we have created a Haunted Walk in the museum dungeon featuring some of our favorite mummies, witches, skeletons, and ghosts. The tour is suitable for all ages.

Private tours featuring the Calhoun collection will be available October 9, 16, 23 and the week of Oct. 26 – 30. Group tours are $5 for up to six friends or family members. Tours do not need to be scheduled ahead of time – drop in anytime between 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and a tour guide will escort you to the basement via stairs or elevator. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

More chills and thrills will be waiting for young and old alike from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday in the Train Room as John and Lou Davis continue the theme of Raising Spirits in Marshall County.
